Baby Shower

On Saturday Clara and I were given a wonderful baby shower. Thank you everyone that came and celebrated my little girl! Also thank you to everyone that helped with invitations, decorations and food (Mom, Donielle & Teri!!!), and Tara for providing the party favors (free manicure! Wahoo!) Here are some pictures from the afternoon:

My mom worked on these adorable decorations and party favors for weeks! They turned out so cute... And now I get to put them in Clara's room. :)

My sister-in-law, Donielle (who's baby boy is due any day now) brought the flowers and the cake. So so so so cute! I didn't want to cut into it.

She also brought the balloons. Isn't the baby balloon fun? I love it.

The lovely Peters!
Kami is due with her girl a couple weeks after I am. She always looks stylish. Even when she's expecting she looks great!

My beautiful friends (it was so good to see you both!!!)

In the evening we had the family over for a BBQ so the boys wouldn't feel left out.

My dad and Donielle. Dad thinks he's funny.

My brother and I. He thinks he's funny too.

What a weekend!

Finally...

I spent my free time last week finishing up some of my long-time unfinished projects like the valance and bumper. I love just going in and hanging out in her room. I probably shouldn't because I'll probably be in there all the time here soon, but it's just so fun and girly!
Oh, and I just had to add a picture of this pillow I embroidered because I thought it was so darn cute! It matches my nephew's crib set. What else is there to make for a boy? I'm stumped. I guess diapers and wipes are always good gifts.
In other news, I got new glasses! I think I take being able to see clearly way too much for granted. I wonder how the pioneers survived without a new perscription every year. I also think it would be sooo miserable to be pregnant and have to go out to an outhouse three times a night in the winter- and I think the toilet seat in the house is cold!

Project #7- Hair Accessories

Hooray for hair bows and flowers! Here are just a few of the hair accessories I've put together. (Notice I added a bodice to the hairbow holder. I thought it looked too much like a hula skirt without it.)

Why did it look so much like a hula skirt? Well, it might have something to do with the fact that the majority of flowers came from one of these:

I'm pretty proud of myself for thinking of using a lei... I was racking my brain for the longest time trying to figure out an inexpensive way to make a bunch of different colors of flowers. I thought of using scrapbook flowers, but most of them are very small and super expensive! I also looked at fake flowers from the craft store and the dollar store, but you buy a bouquet and only get one color of flower (also expensive!) Then while looking through the party section of the dollar store for a plastic table cloth for New Beginnings (see previous post) I saw a bunch of lei's.... Why didn't I think of that before?!?

Here are a few things I've learned:

  • Take out all the stem and only use the petals, otherwise they get really bulky
  • Some of the petals would fray really easily so I'd heat seal the edges over a candle
  • Be sure to glue each petal down
  • I used actual hair clippies instead of alligator clips and you can use them in your hair, or on a headband! Plus they're much cheaper...
  • Only use glue on the fat end of the clip, otherwise they pop off

I made a liner for this basket and put all the crochet headbands in it. You can buy them on ebay for about 50 cents a pop.

So easy and so affordable!... And tons of fun!
