I decided to make a slideshow with our Christmas pictures on it. Enjoy!

Organize: My dresser
I spy with my little eye... The most random junk you will ever find, all on my bedside dresser!
Let's see... There's the not so weird stuff: Lotion, Perfume, glasses, my bible, a jewelry box... But then there's peanut butter (Clara's doing, not a hungered pregnant lady!), a baby monitor (not so weird, but we NEVER used it, and there it still sits), paperwork from a cheer camp I did this summer...
a fifty dollar bill (not the safest place in the world to store your cash), a dozen un-sharpened pencils, candy wrappers, other garbage, two flavors of deodorant, and three sticks of lip balm that I can never seem to locate when I actually need them!
The Task: Take everything off the surface, organize jewelry box, move dresser to other side of corner, and attach the mirror.
Time Spent: About 2 hours
The Results: I want my bedroom to be a place that I enjoy being. I want to be able to retreat there after a long day and not see more mess. I want our room to be a sanctuary of sorts- a place to relax. It is soo hard to relax with so much clutter! It just so happens that the places that company doesn't ever see are the most neglected by me.
I love this dresser that used to belong to my parents. It is beautifully and sturdily constructed, it's just seen a LOT of wear and use through the years. My uncle did a beautiful job restoring the mirror part as a gift to my parents years ago, and it's just been sitting in the office closet since Dennis and I have been married. I hope to someday refinish the rest of the piece (maybe when the weather warms up again), but I really wanted to put the mirror up regardless of the shape of the base. It's just so pretty!
I'm not a fan of the symmetry here, but I'll figure out something. I found a crate to hold my tissue box and lotions, you can't really see it but my perfumes are on a long shell tile tray.
(Don't mind my charger. I'll move it to the outlet behind the bed.) I also don't really love having it up against my bed like that but I moved it for 2 reasons. 1) so I can reach a drink or cracker in the middle of the night without having to sit all the way up and lean out of bed and 2) This way there will be room for the bassinet in 3 1/2 months when this baby girl comes!
Just a couple more projects and our bedroom will be an organized, pleasant place to be!

Organize: The piano
This is one I did before Christmas. I haven't done a whole lot of house projects this past week (and understandably so!) after my computer issues and trying to get all the last minute Christmas prep done. Christmas was fabulous and I will share more from this weekend later, but for now here's the poor piano...
It's not supposed to be a landing place for mail and paperwork, but it often becomes that. AND, Clara loves to climb on the keys and drag down everything that's on top the piano. Usually I have my Nativity set up there, but that would just be way too accessible for my little toddler!
The Task: File paperwork, hang Christmas cards on the fridge, find decor that Clara can't hurt too bad, & replace the old piano books in the bench (that I never play) with the music I do play (that used to be in a basket beside the piano... Until Clara became mobile about a year ago!)
Time Spent: 1 hour
The results: I'm not sure I like what's on top of the piano now, but I suppose it will get changed out soon enough with Christmas already being over and all! :-( For being the very first thing you see when you walk in the front or side door I think I need to work harder at not ever using the piano as a junk resting spot.
I also like having my books in the bench now... So I don't have to go back and fourth between the piano and the office when I want to play something. Clara has figured out everything else in this house, but she still hasn't ever opened the bench (knock on wood!)
Oh, did you notice my sweet farmhouse window? I found this guy at a yard sale a year and a half ago at a yard sale for $3. Yay! Just this 4th of July did I get around to painting it up into "Old Glory." I'd like to add some vinyl (est. 1776) on the bottom, and maybe twine or berries or something above it to embellish it... But that probably won't get done until next Independence day! Haha...

Organize: my computer
So... learning how to update my blog from my phone is not what I planned to do today during clara's nap. My computer has contracted a spyware program called 'system fix.' It badically makes your computer seem like it's crashed and tries to sell you something to fix it... I go one year without antivirus software and now that I have some I get a bug!
From what I have read I should be able to restore most, if not all of my previous settings. I am in the process of waiting for the spybot program to find and destroy the problems.
One of my baby steps was to organize my files, and part of that was to create backups! I hope hope hope this will get fixed and then I will be doing that asap!
Organize: the bookshelf
Can I start one of these posts with a pretty picture??? Okay... :)
We finally bought ourselves a new TV (something neither of us really cared that much about) but now that we watch so much Netflix we wanted something that could play it other than our laptop. So our new TV, mount, dvd player and Roku (LOVE that thing!!!) was Dennis & mine gift to each other this year. It had been sitting on the coffee table for a few weeks, and had accumulated quite a few toddler fingerprints. Thank you Dennis for hanging it up on Saturday! Eventually I will figure out something other than the coffee table to hide all the cords and electronics, and maybe take the sticker off the TV. ;-)
Oh, and did you notice how naked our tree is below 3 feet? Haha.
Ugh. Now this "project" was especially needed because you can see this disaster right as you come in our house! The top two shelves had decor on them as of about last spring, but then Clara got to be quite the climber and I had no where to hide things from her anymore! Those poor shelves just kind of became a catch all for things I would try and keep away from my little monkey.
Clara also pulls out the books very frequently. I also can't find the bottom shelf insert. It's around here somewhere... The bottom boxes are full of diapering items, as well as some of Clara's toys.
The Task: Change out old decor, find places for random knick knacks, clear off a shelf for dvd's (since our old tv stand had to go bye bye), clean out Clara's toys so there will be a place for her new Christmas toys.
Time Spent: 1 Hour, 15 minutes
The Results: It is soooo much nicer to see this picture than the last few! Even when the floor is covered in toys in the living room, that's Clara's mess and that's understandable. This was my mess and it was such a sore! I was even able to clear a shelf for my nativity, which makes me very happy. :) We put it up and talked about it for Family Night yesterday.
I kind of ran out of time to go through the toys because Clara woke up from her nap. That will be one of those projects I will have her help me with... She also immediately went to the dvd's and started pulling them out, so I had the idea to put in a couple tension rods I had lying around for photography stuff... So far she's left them alone! I have a prettier basket than the diaper box, but it's being used to hold Christmas gifts (for easier transportation) so that will wait too...
I love having a cleaner house for Christmas. :) And what a great gift to myself to be able to put up my nativity... To hear Clara say "baby Jesus!" is soo worth it!

Organize: the MOST important things
Yesterday I finally started (and almost finished) wrapping all of the Christmas presents. It's sad to me to take them out of hiding, wrap them up all pretty, then put them back into hiding... But you gotta do what you gotta do with a toddler in the house.
Yes, I did spend a LOT of time focusing on that part of Christmas, but today I got to focus on the best part of Christmas.
Today was the Sabbath and we spent the morning together as family, the afternoon at church and the evening at our 3rd annual Stake Christmas Musical Fireside. All of the wards, including our Spanish branch sang a number while we watched a slideshow with narration and a few mormon messages. The program is always concluded with the entire stake choir singing the "Hallelujah Chorus"... Is it ever so powerful! Our stake president also quoted this verse of "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing"
We give gifts at Christmas time to symbolize the gifts given to baby Jesus by the wise men... but I also think there's more to it. He gave us the ultimate gift of the atonement, and we have been given everything by our Father in Heaven. What do we give him???
I would like to start a family tradition where we physically do something as a symbol of our gift to Him... I don't know... Maybe write down our goals for the next year and put them in a special box to keep in a special place until the next year... Or (better yet) maybe even somewhere on display? I'm not quite sure how to implement it, but I know what I want to give this year...
I want to organize my spiritual life by creating good habits. I want to use my agency to choose to do the things that I used to do so well before I was married and had conflicting schedules with work and sleep and nap time and wake time (like read scriptures & personal prayer daily) and also those things that our family needs to make good habits of (family prayer & weekly family home evening.) Lately we have gotten into a routine at 8:00 of "brushing" Clara's teeth (using the toothbrush as a means to get a drink of water), saying family prayer in her room, and kissing her good night. It has worked well for us this past month. We have also made an effort to have a more organized family night. It's quite difficult to get Clara to pay attention to anything for more than two minutes, so Dennis has been "reading" his Kickchi (some crazy Mayan dialect from Guatemala that I don't know how to spell) Book of Mormon picture book. Pretty much we just look at the pictures and tell the stories. (Do you think it's time to get some materials in English?!)
SO... my goal for today is to figure out how to implement a "What gift do we give?" tradition and then make a plan on how to record and measure my progress personally (sticker chart anyone?)
On another note, I'm grateful for this blog that is making journaling possible for me again. I just can't spend the time that I did writing -by hand (I know... so old school!)- the details, struggles, triumphs, revelations, etc. of my life. I do miss it. I've enjoyed being able to post more frequently this past little while and just write. It's therapeutic. Plus, I can add pictures. And I can type a zillion times faster than I can write. And yes, when I'm journaling I have a tendency to throw all grammar out the window. And yes, I just started another sentence with a conjunction. :) And there's another smiley face too... Love those little guys. :) Oh boy, is it midnight-thirty? No wonder I'm rambling. Off to bed!...

Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, risen with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, born that we no more may die, born to raise us from the earth, born to give us second birth. Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the new born King!"
This is why we celebrate his birth. This is why we sing hallelujah. Light and life to all he brings... What a beautiful, wonderful, amazing thing to know at Christmas!

Grab your backpack!
Clara's first love is Elmo, but Dora is her favorite show to watch (thank goodness for Netflix!) She used to say that she wanted to watch "packpack!" She gets very excited when Dora's backpack comes on and sings her song (did you backpack is a girl? I guess she just has a very masculine voice.) Anyway, here's the (almost) finished product. It was midnight when I took these beautiful pictures and I didn't iron her or finish sewing up the hole I used to turn the lining right side out. Her face is made of felt with blanket stitching around the edges. I didn't have any heat-n-bond so embroidery will have to do.

Backpack was made from an XL purple corduroy shirt I found for a buck (I know... It wasn't 25 cents. It hurt me to spend that much too!) I just drew my own pattern.
I love upcycling clothes. Not only is it cheap, but I love trying to work in the existing elements into the project. I was able to use the front pocket as the "star pocket" as well as the button strip to make adjustable straps!
Star pocket! I made stars out of felt, but neglected to measure first.
Map pocket! I honestly would live life much happier if I never had to hear "I'm the map, i'm the map, I'M THE MAP!" again, but you can't have Dora's backpack without a map!
Forest! Gate! Grandma's House! (And yes, it's pink. Hehe)
This was the project this morning... ALL MORNING! I really wanted the grumpy old troll, but seriously?! How do you make him out of felt??? Walmart was out of tan felt so Map's face will just have to wait until later. That is if I decide that I'm in the mood for more hand embroidery. Probably not.
Really though, this was a fun and simple project. I hope Clara likes it!

Organize: Christmas!
Two random "tips" I'm trying to make habits (as found on FlyLady):
1) Don't leave a room empty handed. Minimize trips and maximize efficiency by multitasking. This should be very helpful seeing how many times I have to go from the living room to the bathroom these days! So far I've done okay remembering...
2) Empty the dishwasher in the morning and fill throughout the day as dishes get dirty. Now, you have to know that Dennis is the most amazing husband in the world. He does the dishes 95% of the time. I'm not even exaggerating. However, I don't despise unloading the dishes as much as loading, so I can handle the morning "unloading." I can also handle the "fill as you go" throughout the day. It's the stuck on old food that makes me want to throw up. I'm such a wimp.
Today's Task: Buy the last few Christmas gifts on my list, design Clara's Dora backpack, finish "making" mom's gift (super excited about it!), wrap presents!!!
Time Spent: All day today & yesterday. That's life right? It feels good to get stuff done though. :)
The Results:
So this morning I unloaded the dishes while Clara finished eating/playing with breakfast, and then put in a load of laundry while she watched Dora. Surprisingly, I didn't die from housework-itis as I was sure I would. I went through my list of baby steps and decided I really needed to finish up Christmas prep (Which included a trip to WalMart... The week before Christmas... Ugh!)
Yesterday Clara and I stopped by my favorite thrift shop on our way home from doing visiting teaching. I went with a few things in mind: Thick purple fabric to make a Dora Backpack from, Clara & Newborn clothes, and office organizers. It was 25 cent kids clothes, which is great but also means they will be pretty cleaned out of all the good stuff. I still found some NB pants (which is what I wanted) and a thermal top for Clara. I looked through the fabric scraps, bedding, & curtains and didn't find anything for a Dora Backpack, but then I thought I'd look through the women's clothing. Score! I found a purple corduroy button-down XL shirt. It's a little faded, but is thick and will be great for a toddler backpack! I also found a metal paper organizer. I was hoping it would fit my scrapbook paper but I got it home and it's just an inch too small. :( Oh well.
I found a few examples of Dora backpacks online. I think I'll kinda use a combination of this one and this one for inspiration, but mostly do my own thing.
I survived WalMart, and now have all the gifts bought for Christmas! I haven't wrapped a single one yet... I spent all day working on Clara's backpack, so I'll break out the wrapping paper when Clara takes her nap today.
I also decided I like having an empty sink. Dirty dishes are just gross.
Are your bored of my housekeeping woes? This is just life for everyone. It's like blogging about taking a nap, or driving, or school work... It's just so mundane. But I suppose if I write about it makes it more exciting and fun (at least to me) so I will continue to write super long posts about my cleaning "adventures."
My house doesn't really look that different yet (it's still a huge mess) but I feel a lot better about myself so I guess that's a step in the right direction. :)

Organize: My closet
Are you ready for this? Ahhh!!!
This is what often greets me when I walk into my bedroom... I have a problem problems! If there's an empty surface, it will become a landing place for stuff! All the clothes in this post are clean, most of them cast-offs from trying to find something to wear to Dennis' work party a couple weeks ago.
This is after I took out half the clothes and put them on the night stand on the previous picture... Usually I have to jam the hangers against the wall to fit any more clothes in. I also just throw all my clean workout clothes on the top shelf. No order to the madness... Just up there.
Oye! This is a little stand between mine & Dennis' closet. It used to have a vase on it until Clara kept knocking it down. Now it is another surface to lay clothes on. Clean laundry in the basket... Just not put away.
The task: Hang up clean clothes, move "regular" clothes to the back and maternity clothes to the front, get rid of clothes I don't wear, organize spaces for workout clothes, organize sock/underwear drawers.
Time spent: A little over 2 hours
The results:
I have two of the same frumpy second-hand maternity dresses. Why do I have two? Well, my favorite place to shop s a little thrift store downtown that has a monthly quarter sale. I bought each of these for a quarter on separate trips this summer. I have kept both... I do not know why. They aren't even cute. But one is now going back to the thrift store!!!
I did not show the before pic of this one because of all of my visible "unmentionables," but after much cleaning here are my plastic tupperware drawers. I LOVE these things! I think I need more for other places in the house. :) I fold my pj's and put them on top of the drawers.
I also love these wire baskets above my shelves. I want more of those too. :) Now my workout pants, capris, shorts, and tops are all separate. I also decided to take all my grungy work tees off the hangers to save space and folded them on the shelf.
The box is full of stuff to refashion, the other pile is to donate (will make the trip tomorrow), the top drawer is full of socks and the bottom drawer is EMPTY! I'm sure I'll find something to fill it up soon... Now to find something to put as decoration on top of the drawers so that I'm not tempted to fill it with clothes!!!
Basket full of swimming stuff,The floor is reserved for duffel bags and my belts. I need a better way to organize my belts. Any ideas???
Plan for upkeep: Don't go to bed without folding/hanging everything back up. Weekly scan shelves to make sure they stay folded/separate.

Organize: Make a Plan
As part of a continuation of my last post... I've been thinking about some changes I need to implement in my life. Time is such a precious gift, and I don't use it effectively. I've been especially thinking about the time I spend with my business, school and family. I've got a plan for my business, I've finally decided to hold off on school (at least for next semester), and now I need to focus on how to better my family time.
One of the biggest disappointments I have with myself in my family life is my complete lack of housekeeping habits and skills. My skills in a kitchen are basic at best and need some focus and attention, but for now I just want to focus on my cleaning and organization issues, and holy cow do I have issues! Maybe I'll share some pictures of my progress as motivation to never be this embarrassingly messy again!!! As disorganized as I am with my stuff, I'm the kind of person that likes to make lists and write stuff down. So here's what I came up with...
Goals:
1. Complete my baby steps (see below) to de-clutter and organize each of the problem areas in my home. Donate/ throw out what we don't use. Have a place and a plan for everything else. Finish Goal Date: January 19th - my anniversary gift to Dennis :-)
2. Create weekly cleaning habits by creating and using The Binder (post to follow).
3. Involve Clara in everything that I can.
4. Create personal habits of nightly family prayer, scripture study, weekly FHE, and monthly Temple & VT

I originally thought about focusing on one room at a time, but I think that would still be a little bit too overwhelming for me. Instead, I will focus on certain areas in a room, and I won't put them in a certain order so that I can choose which one I feel like "fixing" each day. While I'm working on these problem areas I will work on my weekly habits and maybe I can change this mentality that I have that continually leaves my house in an undesirable state. Wish me luck!!!

As of late...
My thoughts have turned to how I've been spending my time. Sometimes I let things of great importance go neglected while I stress and work on other good things, just not the most important things... I wrote a loooong post on my photo blogsite with some goals and changes for next year. I will do better remembering what matters most!
I hope everyone is having a beautiful Christmas season. I love Christmas music, but I sadly cannot find my cd case with all my Christmas albums in it. :( Thank goodness for Pandora!

It's a...
Dennis and I are so excited to announce that we will be having another girl this spring! Boy will that be handy since we already have girl clothes in all the right season... Now we'll just see if she decides to wait to come until her sister's birthday. Wouldn't Clara just love that???
We went in for my 20 week appointment on Monday and got the second trimester ultrasound. We were in there for a looooong time because the baby wasn't cooperating so well. She showed us that she was a she quickly enough, but it was all the other really important stuff that she didn't want to share with the ultrasound tech. Finally she was able to get images of everything but the heart... They could only find three of the four chambers. The doctor says that we shouldn't worry because if she did only develop three chambers she would have manifested that in other ways by growing disproportionately. Her legs and abdomen and head are all proportionate for a 20 week old fetus, so they aren't concerned enough to do a heart scan (or something I don't remember the exact terms for.) They will just check up on her with another ultrasound in two months when she and I have grown a bit more and it's easier to get the right angles to see her.
So, I'm going to take Doctor Allen's advice and try not to worry... But holy cow is that a hard thing to do! Instead we'll just focus on narrowing down our list of names. I just seem to find more to add to it all the time!
P.S. Thank you Tara for taking these pictures. We literally ran outside at 5:05 and the light was gone by 5:10... But that's okay because I think it was like 18 degrees outside!

Kitchen counters
This cute little stinker loves to climb on EVERYTHING. Her newest discovery is that she can get to the kitchen counters by sliding the chairs over by the gate. I thought I'd be smart and tie the chairs together making them harder to move.
It took her all of a half a minute to figure out to slide them both.
Sometimes I'm afraid she's got the mind of an evil genius.
Maybe I'll try tying the chairs to the table... (Or more likely) just give up.

Bumble Bee
Our sweet little bumble bee... I figured I should probably get this post up before Christmas. ;-) Thank you Tara, Grandma Mary and G-Pop (aka "Beepop!") for helping me wrangle this little bee for our shoot.
I made the costume by the way... Pretty easy and pretty fun! I hope Miss Clara will continue to let me make her costumes in the years to come... We'll see how that goes next year when she actually has an opinion to share about the matter!

Thanksgiving 2011
This year we spent Thanksgiving Day at the Leavitt house. It was a great day spent with good company, yummy food and great entertainment, the best of which is always Clara. She woke up from her nap completely drenched in sweat. I don't know how this kiddo is always so hot, but if you can ever get her to hold still long enough she makes a pretty good heater on a cold day...
In other news, I have been able to feel the baby kick these past few weeks (since 16/17 weeks) and it's kicking regularly enough now (19 weeks today!) that Dennis can feel the baby kick too! Tonight especially it's been an active little thing... Maybe it liked the caramel sundae I had earlier today.

Needle in a Haystack
This weekend all the Peters were in town for Uncle Don's life celebration. It was beautiful and perfect and I was very happy that we all got to be a part of it. There was also a stained glass window dedication in honor of Dennis' grandparents at the Presbyterian church in Hollister. It was a great weekend spent with family, talking about good memories (and eating delicious food!)
We were also able to take some family pictures in the park. Thanks Tara for wielding the camera, and thanks mom for sacrificing your new boot in the frozen ditch in order to get the babies attention! We got some really great shots and I can't wait to edit the rest of them!
When we finished the shoot we were all really excited to get back into our warm cars (it was really windy and really cold!!!) but right after the last shot I realized that one of my worst fears had come true... My wedding ring was missing! I knew I had it at the beginning of the shoot, but my fingers were so numb I had no idea when it slipped off my finger. The last few shots were of us throwing leaves, so it was a good guess that it came off somewhere in that area... The only problem was that there was a lot of leaves, and we went to a couple different locations to throw them! It was also getting dark soon. I was very very skeptical, but said many prayers for help to find my ring.
Someone had the genious idea to look through the pictures to see if we could see my ring and figure out when exactly I lost it so we wouldn't have to fleece the whole park. It took some time, but we were able to figure it out! Here is the first place we threw leaves:
And there's my ring (and an awesome close up of me, I must say!):
Then we saw the big 'ole pile of leaves over there... I'm so glad Tara just kept snapping away because this is the last picture we can see my ring on my finger:
And the closeup:
We threw more leaves...
And... No ring on my left hand!
At least now we had a general area to look in (which happened to be a huge raked up pile of leaves. Doesn't that sound like an adventure?)
We looked for a while, and decided we weren't getting anywhere. The boys ran off to Sportsman's Warehouse to see about a metal detector, the babies hung out in Kami's car, I kept looking at pictures to try and find where I lost my ring, and the rest kept looking through leaves. We eventually sent the babies home and Mom & Tara stayed until the boys got back. I sent them home with Clara because Mom's foot was frozen from her dip in the ditch and the BSU game was on. ;-) Dennis, Teri, John & Dustin stuck around and we searched the area with the metal detector. It was very depressing to pick up a reading every foot or so. There must have been a LOT of pop tabs in the grass.
We all had a temple sealing appointment to get to and the light was fading fast. We kept on getting readings and finding nothing. It was freezing. There were SO many leaves! I was seriously doubting we would find it, and then we would've wasted $200 on a metal detector to find a few pop tabs. Ugh! I was so depressed and so mad at myself for never resizing my ring (I already did it once, but should do it again. I just always thought my fingers would swell up with pregnancy, but the cold just must balance it out because they never did.) Just as it was getting to dark to see anything Dustin picked up a reading and after John brushed away a few handfuls of leaves... Lo and behold! There it was. So sparkly and beautiful!!! I may have cried.
...And we made it to the Temple JUST in time. :) I think I need to thank Heavenly Father every day for the next year to make up for how many times I prayed to find it. I have prayed a lot to find things I've misplaced over the years, and it seems that Heavenly Father almost always helps me think of the place to look immediately after I say "amen." I was getting a little frustrated that it didn't happen so quickly this time, but in all reality I should be so grateful that we even found it at all! And also that other people had the inspiration to look through the pictures to find a more exact location, and that Tara had the inspiration to keep taking pictures, and that Dennis was inspired to get a metal detector, and that we were able to find it before dark and were able to make our Temple appointment. I think one of the things I struggle most with is just putting my full trust in the Lord and that everything will be worked out in his time. Not mine.
Life is good. I have my ring. I have an AWESOME family that sacrificed frozen fingers, frozen toes, and $200 to help me.
Now does anyone want to buy a metal detector???
*Update*
To update on my previous post... My OB doctor does think it was Gallbladder issues, but that it's not a big deal unless it turns into stones. It's just funny to me that one doctor can be 95% sure that it wasn't my Gallbladder and the other is 95% sure that it was!
